    1. This mystery held up well. While I guessed the big "twist" well in advance (or subconsciously remembered it from the first reading long ago?), that didn't impair the readability of the book overall. Given how many of the mysteries of twenty years ago show their flaws now, the fact that this one hasn't begun to look stupid or dated is quite a plus.

    2. Delighted to see a number of additional books in the series. This is the first book for me by this author, a free download, but won't be the last of this series for me.A very entertaining and well written first novel with a taut plot line, polished writing style and solidly developed characters. An interesting twist on a 'missing person' investigation, tied in to an old murder case. Overall, a very well crafted mystery with a main character that appears to have a great deal of potential as a seri [...]

    3. A fun and functional entry into the genre of female private investigators, with lots of super Bay Area detailing, that's let down in the middle by pacing gone awry, and shoehorning in a romance where it didn't remotely need to be. But I don't enjoy Jeri enough as a character, nor the writing style enough to go on with the series.(view spoiler)[(To be clear: the romance with Mark worked and was hot, but the Sid thing came from wicked far out of left field.) (hide spoiler)]

    4. Just re-read this one as I sit around recovering from gallbladder surgery. Love this series! Howard's details and well-structured story lines are enjoyable, and I love the accurate Bay Area descriptions - having lived there for 12 years I am transported right back in time. Happily, though the books date back to the early '90s, they hold up well 20 years later. I'll probably go ahead and revisit the whole series!

    5. A little bit predictable but I still enjoyed the book. I am glad that this book wasn't updated to go with modern times. Takes me back to when I was younger. Now I am off to book 2.

    6. Interesting book . Keeps you on your toes trying to figure out the who really done it. I couldn't figure it out. Someone had committed a murder of a mother and father together. Their son was the one who went to prison for it. Years later he was released. A private investigator lady was hired to find a missing woman who was believed to have left suddenly leaving her small child and cleaned out her husbands ban account. Days later she was fired from the case and then days later was rehired by a re [...]

    7. So many choicesThe characters were so well drawn that the storyline could have gone in multiple directions. Up until the end my suspicions were not confirmed. Although prior events in Jeri's career shaped her, they weren't played up so much you felt you needed to read a prior book. Hope to see some of the same players in book 2.

    8. Fantastic MysteryI could not put this book down. The plot was excellent and the characters and story exceptional. I didn't guess the ending and hope the 2 main characters get together again in another book.

    9. Family dramaPrivate investigator gets caught up in dysfunctional family drama. Book starts with missing person who seems innocent oh caught up in the web of layered dysfunction. Good for reading over severe days.

    10. This is the first in a series I will probably follow. I bought it because I used to live in the San Francisco area, and it's fun to recognize places the story takes me. I enjoyed the characters and storyline, what more could I ask?

    11. I really enjoyed this book as I grew up in Alameda and went toAlamefda High And went Ole's all the time.Brought back good timesso been in the first and last chance It was Jack London's hang out

    13. Kindred CrimesEnjoyed this one immensely. Jeri is a PI and is hired to find a missing wife. Jeri is single and a tough individual but also curious about the case where is fired by her client. Worth the time to read

    14. Good story plot and well written the story line is well plotted. The book is well written. Fast pace and page turning. The heroine is one dimensional. Bully and a little unreal.

    15. Good !mysteryWell written book. Plan to read other books by Janet Dawson and recommend them to others. Stayed up late to finish this one.

    16. Truly EnjoyedAnyone who likes a good detective story, great characters, vivid descriptions and intriguing who dun it reads should check this out.

    17. Page turnerGood characters and a plot that thickens as the story develops. A good who-done-it. I’ll read the next book in the series.

    18. Good oneI enjoyed the plot twist and search for the truth. I liked the main character grit and that it is a woman.

    19. Very good readingEnjoyed the quick twists in the plot. The whole book was well written and the interaction of the characters brought the book to life.

    20. A good mystery Easy to read and follow the characters in this twist and turn who done it. Enjoyable and quick read that is hard to put down.

    21. Decent but slow I had it figured out pretty quickly into the book. This is a very slow read and disappointing. Seems a decent author but need to fine tune her skills

    22. Kindred CrimesI slowly got drawn into the characters lives and Keri is a flawed but very cool PI. Many plot twists.

    23. Fairly good, held my attention, but the ending was very predictable. Knew early on what really happened when the parents were killed. Also, thought the ending was very abrupt, rather unfinished.

    24. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The characters were believable and kept my interest throughout. The touch of romance was just right. I look forward to the second Jeri Howard mystery!

    25. Good readI choose this book because it was free. I enjoyed the story. I will read other books from this author. Next time I will pay for the book

    26. Exceptional ReadI will be adding all Ms. Dawson's book to my "to be read list". Enjoyed reading about a woman PI very much.

    27. A winnerA fast paced and engaging book where the Suspense began at the start and held throughout until the end. Excellent!
