    1. I enjoy a good, meaty historical saga and picked this one up with that in mind. The story revolves around four Russian women in Alaska during the time of the Russian fur trade, through the transfer to US control, and the Gold Rush.It veered a lot into the romance side (and with one of the women owning a Cat House, into a lot of discussion of the proclivities of the men in Alaska) and some sections were stronger than others, but it kept my interest and I did learn a lot about the history of Alask [...]
