The political science/methodological focus--seeing the book as a contribution to debate regarding nature of military doctrine and how that fits into various political science debates--in my view made the book too selective in its treatment of the events. This approach I think somewhat distorts the significance of some of the materials discussed if one takes into account the context of existing, classic and more recent historical treatments of both the pre-1940 French and Bri [...]
