    1. HANG ON WHILE I GLARE AT MY FELLOW REVIEWERS4.56 STARSWHATHOWWHAT BOOK DID YOU READBECAUSE IT WASN'T THIS ONEI read this book, despite my reservations, because it had such good reviews. I honestly wish I could get the time back. It promises a riveting action sci-fi with a little bit of dinosaur horror thrown in, but this is the bad kind of YA that leaves out details because YA readers are too young/stupid to understand them. There are no dinosaurs in this book, and the narrator feels the need to [...]

    2. My review:This book was fantastic!!! Normally, I don’t like sci-fi with dinosaurs in the book. The one book that I read that used them as antagonists went WAY overboard and killed my enthusiasm for reading any books of the same.Well, I am happy to say that this book has righted the wrongs of the other book. From the beginning, when Caleb tells about what happened to Earth, the 2 centuries of traveling throughout space and the accident that fragmented the population of the spaceship on to the n [...]

    3. Never a dull moment! Action packed from start to finish. It's like Jurassic Park in space. Felt like it ended well. Can't wait for the next installment!

    4. I don't usually read MG/YA, or even Scifi for that matter, but I found this story to be quite fun! Here's the thing: I LOVE dinosaurs. I mean, these aren't actual Earth dinos, but those are details, and I loved them anyway.Alright, so onto the story itself! I enjoyed the main character's (Caleb) growth throughout the story. It's done so naturally and with such great flow that by the end, I could look back on how Caleb was at the beginning, and realize just how much he's matured. Not only physica [...]

    5. Okay so when I started this ebook, Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden, I could not put it down. I had never read a book by Vogul before but now I'm going to make sure to put her on my list of great authors. Horizon Alpha is about where human civilization went after the planet Earth was destroyed. After spending 12 years in space, their ship, Horizon Alpha, crashes onto a planet called Tau Ceti. At first everyone is filled with great joy over finally being able to live on the ground with fresh air. [...]

    6. Predators of Eden is a pleasant thrill ride of a YA sci-fi novel featuring a young man who comes of age in a brutal crucible as he tries to save not only himself but his fledgling colony on a remote world filled with dinosaurs. Caleb Wilde is a fifteen year old who gears up for his first mission on the planet Eden. He's excited to finally be counted as viable member of a squad. Much like his older brother Josh. Except Josh rolled out into the jungle one day and never came back. Before long their [...]

    7. I grew up on Sci-Fi novels, but as I grew older, I turned to mysteries. But everything come full circle and I'm finding myself being drawn back to my childhood love. I'm glad that I am, but not so much as overjoyed that I found this novel by D.W. Vogel. Wow. What a fun read. I'd describe it as Lost in Space meets Jurassic Park. Space travelers marooned on a planet filled with deadly dinosaurs. A young boy trying to prove himself. It's flat-out exciting. Vogel has an effortless writing style and [...]

    8. Jurassic Park meets the TV series The 100. Alpha Horizon was one of four arc ships carrying the fate of humanity in search of a new hospitable planet after Earth was sentenced to a catastrophic astrological event. However, starting anew on an unknown world proves to be more difficult than originally projected when Alpha Horizon is met with one distaster after another only to be faced with creatures that rival some of Earth's fiercest prehistoric predators. With Earth gone humanity must find a way [...]

    9. Great science fiction storyJust finished reading this book and once I started reading it I could not stop until I finished. The author keeps you engrossed from start to finish. It's full of action and suspense at the end I went and got the next one.

    10. For a short story this one seemed to go on for ever. It started out good but after the crash it was climb a tree during the day to avoid being eating by a t-rex or some other animals that hunted in the day time and then continue walking by night for safety, then some one dies then repeat until there are only two people left of the original team. There is some interesting stuff near the end of the book that I will not go into just in case someone wants to read it but this story I feel could have [...]

    11. When massive arks are filled with comparatively small populations from a destructing Earth, and one of those arks, the Alpha, makes planetfall, a young boy named Caleb is faced with being the “man” of his family, and possibly the last hope for the human race. Interestingly, Caleb’s missing brother is named Joshua, the same names as the two young biblical scouts who bring back hopeful report from the Promised Land; and the settlement is called Eden. Great biblical references, but this is no [...]

    12. Excellent YA science fiction. I've been reading SCI FI for over 50 yrs, & this was a pleasure- I can tell, because when I really like a book, I frequently re-read it right away, to better see connections. I did that with this book. (I started w/Heinlein Juveniles SF, & Andre Norton.) I can accept some sketchy details on ecology of Horizon Alpha, because the survivors have been in a Life-or-Death scenario since the "ark" caught fire. They haven't had time to "just explore". I'm HOPING des [...]

    13. This was a blind read for me. I knew nothing about what to expect when I opened it. I really enjoyed this. A new planet and it didn't just end happy without a lot of hard times in between.

    14. This isn't so much a comment on the story (which by the way, is an interesting story for young adults). It's an aside for the author. This author has no sense of scale. Not to give too much away because of spoilers, she describes a carnivore "3 stories tall" but he's apparently "full" after eating a single teenager, so it's okay to go out now, he won't be hungry anymore. I don't think she understands basic calorie requirements of a critter that size. A tiger can eat 40 kilos of meat at one sittin [...]

    15. I received a copy of Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden from Future House Publishing in exchange for an honest review. It took me a little while to get into this. The writing was a bit simple for me, but the second half of the book definitely picked up. I still hold my opinion that certain aspects of the book could have been a bit more original for it being in the science fiction genre, but all in all it was fairly decent. I tend to like YA books that don't really feel like YA books, they could tra [...]

    16. Horizon Alpha was a great read. I did not want it to end. It is a coming of age story of young man by the name of Caleb. It shows his journey into manhood and how he maneuvers through the trials and tribulations of life in an alternative world. Earth is no more and mankind must survive at any costs. No matter how far in the future this story goes it always seems as thought past will repeat itself at some point. Throughout this novel we see the vast jungle of the this new planet. The inhabitants [...]

    18. I loved Flamewalker, Vogel's first book. It had a strong female lead and presented issues like equality and gender roles/norms in an organic way that was not preachy. More importantly, it is a great fantasy adventure/"coming of age" story that kept you turning pages because you were invested in the characters. It is well worth your time.Aside from equally strong writing, Horizon: Alpha is nothing like Flamewalker. This time, the genre is military sci-fi adventure told from the POV of young soldi [...]

    19. I read it in 2 nights. So that says something, I think. It kept my attention, and I was thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. The idea is reasonable. Who says we go off into the stars and these "habitable" planets couldn't have dangerous flora and fauna? No, they aren't actually Earth dinosaurs, but I suspect that wouldn't matter if one was chasing you.I enjoyed it. Vogel is a solid writer.According to Future House Publishing "Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden will be available for a discou [...]

    20. Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden by D.W. Vogel is a completely plausible future scenario for planet Earth and its inhabitants. After fleeing doomed Earth for another earth-like planet, a group of survivors who happen to be low on adult men, have to rely upon a group of teenage boys to find a lost power source for their camp among ship wreckage in the jungle. They have to avoid creatures that they comparably deem "dinosaurs" as they carry out their search.Although I enjoyed the story myself, and i [...]

    21. This is a solid YA sci-fi survival/disaster story. The first half of the book is a military scout team having to walk home through a dinosaur-infested jungle after their shuttle crashes. The number of team members quickly shrinks as various dinosaur-like monsters pick them off. The second half continues these events but adds some discoveries about the planet they've ended up on. I think it would have been better if these discoveries or other mysteries had started sooner. But it was still pretty g [...]

    22. Good Story.Born on an ark in space, lightyears from a long dead Earth, Caleb and his family find their promised land a living nightmare. Forced to grow up before his time, Caleb’s first assignment as a soldier turns disastrous. Horizon Alpha is a story of perseverance, humanities will to survive, and finding hope.

    23. More than a rollicking great adventure with dinosaurs in space- it's a story about loss, grief, forgiveness, and finding out who you really are when you're tested to the breaking point. Even if you don't read dinosaur/space/sci fi/fantasy books, you should read this one because the story is just that good!

    24. This wasn't pariticularly well written, but it was a fun read. I enjoyed the first half, the battling through the woods, the dinosaurs. The second half was the inevitable killing off of characters, which I didn't appreciate as much. Not bad. Dinos are always fun.

    25. Horizon Alpha is a story of adventure, discovery, and exploration. It was easy and fun to read, but still full of depth and imagery. Vogel proved herself once again in the world of fantasy! Go out and read this book as soon as you can!

    26. I absolutely LOVED this book and I can't wait for the next one! This author has a way of pulling you into the story and before you know it and then you are hooked! 5 stars and I can't wait to read more of her work.

    27. Exciting readThis book captures your attention from the very beginning and holds it till the end. It was very thrilling and adventurous.

    28. I think there's a lot that can be done with this concept. There can be stories that come before Caleb's, as well as what happens after this book ends. It's an interesting idea and a good story.
