    1. R. David Lankes, in his poignantly reflective book “The Boring Patient," is once again anything but boring. Written to share the experiences he had after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Patient “is not about cancer. It is about my response to being diagnosed, living with, and being treated for cancer,” he tells us in the first few pages. “That is an important distinction because cancer is not funny. Cancer sucks. Cancer does not teach, cancer does not preach, cancer does not c [...]

    2. I may have been predisposed to like this book. The author is a colleague and dear friend to some of my most-beloved colleagues, he is a librarian and his audio-book is self-narrated; my favorite format/ style. Also, the subject matter hit close to home - my best friend's mother, my Texas-mother, is also battling cancer. With Sedaris-like wit, Lankes shows us the darker and lighter sides of cancer. He has an insight only a survivor has and shares it with his audience in a way that made me laugh, [...]

    3. Best cancer patient narrative I've ever read. Such an entertaining book to read, packed full of hilarious thoughts. Dr Lankes faced this cancer with a great sense of humor. I'm familiar with Dr. Lankes because I was one of the 2,000+ students in his online Librarian Master Class. I knew he had writing skills as a professional what I didn't know was if he could capture my attention in a narrative; he exceeded my expectations. The only bad thing I have to say about this book is that it was too sho [...]

    4. I loved this book! David Lankes is both a wonderful author, and delightful narrator, as well as a learned scholar. His ability to deal with a difficult topic with grace and humor is inspirational, and I will tuck this book in the back of my mind and take it out whenever I need a lesson of being a great human being.

    5. This was a quick read but thoroughly enjoyed it. David's experience and perspective on the health care system is honest and thoughtful. The book deals with David's diagnosis and treatment of cancer but it goes much deeper than that. His ability to humanize the experience and express what is missing in relationships between doctors and patients is spot on.
