    1. High school student Kip has a vicious case of acne. His body is engulfed in pulsing pustules.  They make Kip feel kinda funny, but not in a bad way.  Touching them gives him surges of ecstasy.  Unfortunately, Kip's dermatological problems make him very unpopular with his classmates, who taunt and bully him.  But what if he could share the blissful blemish euphoria and become popular?  When Kip accidentally expels some gooey zit juice on the hottest girl in the school, something amazi [...]

    2. What starts out as a coming of age story about two cousins attending high school evolves into something else entirely bizarre. The story revolves around Kip and his troubled cousin Zak two teenage boys going through teenage boy's problems. The caveat is Kip has acne. Some terrible acne. The worst case of acne in the entire history of puberty. If you are adverse to any of the following this book may be disturbing.1. Extreme sexual situations2. Extreme violence3. Extreme political incorrectness4. [...]

    3. This is Shane McKenzie's bizarro debut but don't think for a second that he's sold out or gone soft. While the idea and story seems bizarro this is Shane McKenzie and this book is a total gross out, sex filled, bizarro, violent, gore fest. The book is about addiction, and then revenge. You have those that are addicted to Toad's pus and you also have Toad addicted to the feeling of being a God and then Toad unleashes hell.True to form Shane McKenzie may have had every intention of writing a strai [...]

    4. So I had been in the middle of reading another book when Shane McKenzie's Pus Junkies arrived and couldn't wait to pop it open. So I set aside the other book, which had been turning into a chore to read and got right into this. I'm already a huge fan of Shane McKenzie, have yet to be disappointed by anything he has written so far, and once again he delivers. This one is packed full of fun and moments of pure, delightfully disgusting bits, I think it has moved up to be one of my favorites of his. [...]

    5. I have said this before and I will say it again: a big element of Bizarro is escape artistry. The Bizarro author escapes good taste and escapes all the things they have stacked against them. One of the things a Bizarro writer has stacked against them is the central absurd premise. To make dying of cancer sad is a magic trick roughly as impressive as "pull my finger" or "is that a quarter behind your ear?" To make an eternity selling dildos tragic and loaded with pathos is in the realm of Copperf [...]

    6. This is possibly one of the grossest books you will ever read--if, that is, you can make it to the surreal and violent conclusion without burning the book with flammable hand sanitizer and running to the shower with a two gallon tub of soap and a three gallon bottle of shampoo. I read it in about two days. The writing is precise and direct and the voice feels authentic, even though the premise is nightmarish and disturbingly disgusting: you see this kid Kip's numerous zits contain a pus substanc [...]

    7. PUS JUNKIES is nasty. Like nasty-nasty. It is a gross out high school drama bizarro story. But it’s also horror. It’s kind of more horror than bizarro. But it’s gross and it’s Shane Mckenzie so you can kind of assume it’s going to be nasty and drippy and a bit unsettling. Kip has acne. Terrible acne. The worst acne in the history of puberty. It’s so bad that he’s basically a monster. The kids at school call him The Toad. They hate him. They make fun of him. They beat him up. He doe [...]

    8. 4.6 stars rounded up. Don't let the cover, or the fact that this is Shane McKenzie's first bizzaro fool you into thinking it is just your typical weird gross out kind of story, this is splatterpunk at its finest. Yeah he stepped the non violent type of gross out level up a few notches to match the blood and Gore levels but that's really the only difference from his past novels. The thing I love about Shane's writing is that even though they are splatterpunk which just means they are heavier on G [...]

    9. Ahahahahahahahahahaha! This is such a putrid pile of a book it's beyond awesome. That sick fucker Brian Yuzna - /name/nm0951206/ - should read this err novel and make it into a horror flick, I'm willing to bet me arse and left nut it'd turn out to be something even more glorious than "Society" - /title/tt0098354/. Four stars.

    10. Pus Junkies represents author Shane McKenzie's first full foray into Bizarro. Though it took awhile for the story to get rolling, once it did it became a fast paced crazy rocket to the finish line. While the story is Bizarro in nature it doesn't lack McKenzie's signature disgusting gore.I have to admit, I don't think McKenzie should stick with Bizarro. The story fought hard to get where it was going. The bizarro aspects felt forced and the story only began to shine when McKenzie reverted back to [...]

    11. Gag inducing. Well it would be if I wasn't so used to reading gross disgusting things. I did cringe plenty though and express my disgust with some verbal 'ewws'.Pretty easy reading for those with strong stomachs.

    12. Wow. The most vile, disgusting, foul, and wonderful book I've ever read. A credit to the Bizarro Fiction genre.

    13. This is one book that I was glad to read as an ebook. The reason being that the cover kind of grossed me out and I was glad to not have to see it whenever I picked up the book. However, I'm also a little bummed because McKenzie deserves a ton of appreciation for his book and more people should see and read it.Kip is a high schooler with a severe case of acne. He's taking medicine and topicals for it but nothing works. It's so bad that the kids at school call him Toad. Then one day he discovers t [...]

    14. Pus Junkies is a book.It is the kind of book you read and people ask, "What are you reading?"You pause before answering. Not necessarily out of shame, though many people will find themselves feeling ashamed after and while reading this book, but mainly because you know the asker of questions will next say, "What is it about?""Shane McKenzie wrote this book," you will say, as if that answers it all. "Cool," The asker of questions will say."What's it about?" There it is, the question you knew they [...]

    15. Ever since I saw the title & the write-up of this book I was so looking forward to it, but sadly now I've read it I feel more than a little underwhelmed & disappointed by it. First off the negatives:1: I think it's been mislabelled as a bizaro book, in my mind it's more of a straight gory 'n' gross horror book.2: I felt the characterization through-out the book was very lacking & vague, and the characters often had quite similar sort of names.3: The plot seemed to shamble along in a [...]

    16. If you were a big fan of the kid’s snack Fruit Gushers, then this is a book for you. All you need to do is picture eating a Fruit Gusher filled with pus instead of juice and you will have the general idea of what this book is about. McKenzie has successfully written a book that makes the reader feel like they are front row at a GWAR concert, fluids and blood erupting all over the audience, and damn it, it is disgustingly beautiful. The strength of this book comes from its dribbling, blood cru [...]

    17. Brilliant book, I wasn't sure how this story would pad out. It is listed a Bizarro but I would put it in as straight up body shock horror.A well written tale about a boy who is bullied by everyone at school because of a terrible acne problem. He only wants to be liked and love, which he certainly is by the pus filled end. While reading this book my mind conjured up images that wouldn't look out of place in 80s horror films Stuff/Society/Street Trash. As I continued to read there was a grown ball [...]

    18. As much fun as it is gross. Oh so effing gross. Pus Junkies totally lives up to all oozing pus filled hype. Love the 80's gross out horror movie setup. The characters were all there: the outcast nerd, the cool tough guy with a heart of gold, the asshole jocks, the good and bad princesses. Very Street Trash, Brain Damage with a touch of Troma like others have said, but still has the author's unique raw detailed visceral violence that makes it all his. Anyways recommended to all fans of the above [...]

    19. As much fun as it is gross. Oh. So. Gross.Pus Junkies just oozes fun out of all it's pores. It totally lives up to all the pus-filled hype. Love the 80's horror b-movie setup. The characters are all there: the outcast nerd, the cool tough guy with a heart of gold, the jocks, both good and bad princesses. Very Street Trash, Brain Damage with a touch of Troma like others have said, while still keeping Shane McKenzie's unique detailed visceral take on violence that makes it all his own.Anyways reco [...]

    20. Mr. McKenzie's story is as addictive as the substance he writes about in Pus Junkies. I read this story in less than a week because I couldn't get enough of it. In fact, this story is one of the first I've ever read that's almost made me late for work. When a story is that engrossing (heavy emphasis on the gross part), I have no choice but to rate it as high as I have. And I do use the term "high" loosely, given the content matter in this book. In fact, while reading this, I could barely bring m [...]

    21. Wow, where to start with this one. I gave it 5 stars because I don't think there is anything quite like it. The story is completely vile at every turn, culminating in a oozing lysergic gorefest.Themes of alienation, love-sickness, jealousy, coming of age, and all of the pus-sucking/shit-eating you can cram into 180 pages. Shane McKenzie moves the story wonderfully and is a fantastic writer. If popping zits in a pool of technicolor diarrhea is your bag, your prayers have been answered.I only vomi [...]

    22. I really enjoyed this book a lot. Judging by the front cover you can imagine that you're probably in for a humorous treat. This is obviously true, however, there is another message being conveyed in this book as well. Very clever and smart writing by being able to combine these two different emotions, so effectively, in one medium length story. Great work, Shane, and keep'em coming. To all other's, check this one out as it's pretty darn good.

    23. This was by far the most disgusting book I've ever read in my life. I mean that as a high compliment to Shane McKenzie. The zit descriptions went on and on and were so vivid that it started to make my stomach sick. Also, the thing that Kip turned into kept making me think of that thing Lisa turned Chet into in Weird Science. I love that movie!
