    1. One more of my childhood faves. I was 12 or 13 when I read this one. A family of children come upon a mad old lady living at the edge of the wood that backs onto their garden. It turns out she's a white witch, whose powers are newly returned after years of being depleted, just in time to start a huge power struggle with a dark witch who's trying to befriend the children's mother. A really wonderful, magical story, by a great author who has slid into obscurity. It's hard to find anything much abo [...]

    2. I love the simplicity of this book. After reading it as a child (and more than 40 years later I still have that first copy) I have treasured its atmosphere: a dusty sense of place that captivates and enchants. A gentle, beautiful read
