    2. Who would have thought that a novel involving an anguished triangle of passion and deceit could be this funny and this heartbreaking. The characters are terrifically well-realized, the dialogue is spot on, and this is the best novel I've read in a long, long time. It's beautifully written. It's a love story in the middle of a novel about crime and redemption. But the main pleasure is in the characters and what they say to each other. Green Freedom is a real winner and deserves a wide audience.
