    1. This fast-paced thriller had some strong points and some weak ones for me. It reminded me of a lighter, much less technical Tom Clancy-like story. The viewpoint shifts between characters and it is up to the reader to put the pieces together. The main character is Kate Miles, former Kansas governor and current vice president, who is awakened in the middle of the night to learn that the president has died. Kate has to assume control of the government. She expects to have a difficult time because s [...]

    2. I'm so disappointed by this. I had enjoyed Annechino's first two books: not great literature, but an enjoyable little bit of crime fiction. And this just wasn't as fun.For one thing it feels like he's being paid for every brand name he can mention. Do we need to know what brand of laptop the heroine uses? Or what kind of glasses the chief of staff wears? It's jarring. It's like me walking round saying "I'm just going to put on my Nike trainers" or "just let me grab my Radley purse". We don't nee [...]

    4. Whoa! The ending of this book just blew me away. There has to be a sequel, right? What a great political thriller from start to finish. I can't give this book five stars, though, because some of the writing made me uncomfortable, and because the author didn't really capture the protagonist fully. A woman as accomplished and confident as Kate, and not a teenager, would not obsess about the size of her boobs. By the time she reaches her 30s, she would realize that all women have uneven boobs (if u [...]

    5. Annechino does a good job of conveying the loneliness of the presidency. Interesting idea that the first female president ascends to the office after the assassination of a president elected as an independent. Very solid political thriller. And a nice setup for a sequel.

    9. Great thriller until the end, kinda got to simplistic then. Enjoyed reading it would have given it a 4
