    1. Good read. Good overview of policing in New York in 1900 and Tammany Hall corruption. An English Scotland Inspector on secondment to New York showsThe parallels between old world and new world policing. It also demonstrates the resentment Americans still felt for England's old hold on America and their raw old west mentality of creating their new frontiers with new rules or rather a world with very few rules.

    2. about one third of the way in I started recognizing the plot. I have read this book at some point previously.Alex Meade was annoying but gave a good counterpoint to Blackstone. I'm actually interested in how he makes a go of NYC. I am going to miss Archie, his partner back in London, though.

    3. I enjoyed this detective yarn. I thought I had the case solved about three quarters of the way though, but the final twist beat me. Good read.

    4. Interesting story, though I would have preferred a different turn - and I have to wonder if there were really only three people in the whole New York police who were against corruption.
