    1. A picture book about our own Pacific Northwest orcas! It is beautifully illustrated and you learn a lot about orcas in the text, which still reads like a story, rather than non-fiction. There is a nice informational section in the back with further resources to study orcas. I think this will be especially popular here in Washington!

    2. A fair amount of anthropomorphism in this book that made it less informational, but for reluctant readers, the presentation of a story rather than straightforward facts might be intriguing.

    3. Do you know what an orca is? And do you know what orcas eat? Granny is an orca, also known as a killer whale, which is believed to be around 100 years old. She helps take care of her new great-grandchild, born to its mother Samish, along with its older sister Suttles, cousin Mako, great-uncle Ruffles, and others. A clan of orcas is known as a pod, and as Granny’s pod swims, they pass by all kinds of ocean life, are watched by humans in boats, and engage in all kinds of acrobatic activities. So [...]

    4. This week we had a true living books homeschool experience initiated Granny's Clan: A Tale of Wild Orcas. We read the book while my preschooler held onto Waves, the Orca Beanie Baby and then we went onto watching YouTube slideshows with orca whale sounds from JKL family. The Enginerd even got in on it and my girls had a blast. I even promised we could watch some Free Willy movies later this week. Granny's Clan is only my second experience with Dawn Publications but it is uber positive. This is a [...]

    5. A new baby orca whale is born under the watchful eyes of Granny,a one hundred year old matriarch, and the rest of the pod. While following this true story of the whale family, the reader learns interesting details about whales and whale societies-the beautiful illustrations enhance the story. OK, my friend wrote this book, but I think it's fabulous!

    6. I enjoyed how this book paid reverence to Granny Whale. How without her knowledge, experience and training the pod would suffer. This book could be a valuable resource for elementary age students when writing an animal report.

    7. I think this book was trying to capture how majestic whales can be, but I think you or the child you are reading to would have to be really into whales to enjoy this book. It is very wordy and factual and its lack of plot would be hard to capture a child's attention.

    8. Review to follow - having a mini read-a-thon of children's books trying to get Mt TBR down and clear out my iPad kindle box

    9. This book is about the lives of killer whales and shows their family dynamics, how they hunt, play, etc. Beautiful illustrations
